Email Verification for Online Bookings
Why guests will experience extra verification when booking
We are currently addressing a wave of fake bookings made through the online booking system by hackers. To protect you as a restaurateur and your guests, we have introduced an additional email verification step.
How the new verification works
When guests book for the first time, they will be asked to enter a verification code sent to their email.
This happens on the confirmation page, just before the booking is finalised.

Once they enter the correct code, their email is marked as verified.
After that, they will not need to verify again for future bookings.
Important note
If guests make another booking within 20 minutes, the verification will reset, and they will be asked to verify their email again.
This is our first proactive step to prevent automated fake bookings.
Why this matters
These measures strengthen security and help ensure that all bookings are made by real guests. While this may add a small extra step, it significantly reduces the risk of fake reservations impacting restaurants.
Protect Your Restaurant with 2‑Factor Authentication
Strengthening security with 2‑factor authentication as a restaurant
We strongly recommend that all restaurants enable 2‑factor authentication (2FA) on every user account in their DinnerBooking administration.
Why 2FA is important
2FA adds an additional layer of security by requiring a second confirmation when logging in.
This means that even if someone obtains your password, they cannot access your restaurant’s administration without the verification code.
What this protects you from
Unauthorised access to your booking system
Attempts to manipulate or create fake reservations
Changes to your restaurant settings by third parties
Account takeover attacks targeting restaurant data
Enabling 2FA is one of the most effective ways to secure your restaurant against digital attacks and misuse.
